2024 EV Incentives
In 2024, electric vehicle (EV) incentives present exciting opportunities for drivers. There has never been a better time to make the switch to an EV. Here’s a breakdown of the incentives available this year.
Federal Incentives
The Clean Vehicle Credit offers consumers a credit of up to $7,500 when they buy a new, qualified plug-in EV. Starting this year, the tax credit is available as an upfront rebate — you don’t need tax liability to take advantage of the savings. (Income limits apply.) Many popular models like Chevy Bolt, Tesla Model Y, and Volkswagen ID.4 qualify for the credit. Discover which EVs qualify.
The credit is also available as an upfront rebate for pre-owned EVs for up to $4,000. There are fewer vehicle requirements but the income cap is lower. Learn more about the Pre-owned EV incentive.
Leasing continues to be a great opportunity for savings on a broader variety of EVs. Many dealers take the tax credit and pass along the savings through a lease credit when you lease an EV.
If you install a charger at home there’s also a home charger tax credit – 30% of the cost of the install and hardware up to $1,000. This year, the location of your residence determines qualification for this credit.
State and Local Incentives
While the Clean Vehicle Credit applies to anyone in the United States, there are also local and state incentives that vary depending on where you live and your household income. Use this savings calculator to get an estimate of your potential savings.
